A VIOLENT East Kilbride youth who battered a man unconscious in a senseless gang attack has to undergo yet more psychological assessment before he is sentenced.
Daryn Murray, 16, of Main Street, the Village, was expected to be dealt with at Hamilton sheriff court on Friday for a sickening unprovoked assault at the EK town centre taxi rank on December 27, 2007.However Sheriff Bicket ruled that the vicious yob, who also faces punishment for three other offences, be examined further. Murray had previously pled guilty after being caught on CCTV dealing a knockout blow to a man’s head to his severe injury and impairment. His accomplices in the savage attack, 17-year-old Scott Hannah, of Kings Acre Road, Rutherglen and a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were dealt with on the day. Hannah received an 18-month probation order and 120 hours of community service and was ordered to attend anger management classes. The 14-year-old was referred to the Children’s Panel and warned not to end up in court again. Murray’s case was adjourned until July 1 for further psycho-analysis. He is also expected to be dealt with for a second assault in Cornwall Way ten months later while on bail. Murray admitted he was part of a group who attacked a man outside a chip shop on October 25 last year. The incident was also captured on CCTV cameras. Murray has also still to answer for a violent outburst on March 4 this year when he wrecked a cash machine with a hammer at the Spar on Alberta Place and smashed a glass door panel at Dicks Park, breaking a further bail condition. Bail for all four offences was continued until his next appearance.
