Taxi ride nets £1k prize for delighted pensioners Print E-mail

ImageA LUCKY East Kilbride couple hailed a winner by grabbing a grand prize in EKCO Taxis’ free prize draw.
Eighty-year-old Harry and Anna  Gibb, who is 82, from the Murray, are thrilled after scooping the £1000 windfall from a single taxi hire.
The plucky pensioners were so delighted with their unexpected win they almost had the local cabbies in tears.
EKCO Taxis treasurer, Billy McCafferty, said: “It was brilliant. The effect it had on the couple was fantastic.
“They were both gobsmacked and it was quite touching.
“They said they’d never seen so much cash in their hands at once.
“When they told their son on the phone he was so surprised he nearly collapsed.
“I am so glad it went to someone deserving, and on behalf of everyone at EKCO Taxis, I really wish them well.”
The competition, which ran from October until December last year was advertised in the East Kilbride Mail, the Morrisons supermarkets in Stewartfield and Lindsayfield and at Homebase in East Kilbride.
All entrants had to do was fill out a competition coupon, or book a hire with EKCO Taxis.
Billy added: “We wanted to help the public out after Christmas and offer one lucky resident the chance to pay off their holiday expenses after a hard winter.”
Harry, who has two sons and five grandchildren, told the East Kilbride Mail that winning was a tremendous shock.
He said: “My wife and I were totally shocked and very surprised by it. We’ve never won anything like this before.” He added: “It’s tremendous. We haven’t decided what we’re going to spend it on just yet. I’m sure we’ll be treating the family though.
“I’d like to thank EKCO Taxis as this is fantastic.”
