EK Burgh White welcomed the league leaders Thornton FC this week knowing that victory was a must if they were to keep up their hopes of winning the league. From the first whistle, Burgh White took the game to Thornton without really threatening. The young East Kilbride team have hit top form recently and were dominating all areas of the field. Their pressure finally paid off when a well worked move resulted in Aiden O’Donoghue netting his first of the game with a back post header, the striker soon made it two with a run and shot past the keeper. Burgh were now dominant and were three up at half time when Declan Marmion scored just before the break. The second half started with the expected onslaught from the opposition failing to materialise and in fact it was the rampant Burgh still doing all the pressing. Aiden completed his hat-trick with another fine finish and EK were then awarded two penalties in quick succession, both scored by Josh McCormack. The chances were now coming thick and fast with Conor Gahagan, John Loughran and Grant Simpson all coming close but it was up to Sam Alves to hit the magnificent seventh rounding of a great display from the boys. Aiden O’Donoghue took the man of the match award for his hat-trick but in truth it was a great all round display. |
